2Connect 'LINX from Anywhere' - Introduction

A 2Connect Pseudowire, usually implemented as a draft-Martini L2VPN circuit, is a cost-effective means of providing an entry-level connection for other service providers/carriers with no presence in London to the LINX Internet Exchange. This lowers the costs of connecting by removing the need for the service provider/carrier to co-locate routers and equipment at the LINX exchange. 2Connect Pseudowires are commonly available in flexible capacities, or on a "pay for what you use" basis, commonly cheaper than buying fixed data-rate services such as SDH circuits.

2Connect 'LINX from Anywhere' - Requirements

  • A service provider/carrier connecting via 2Connect Pseudowire must be a LINX member, and have applied for LINX membership in the normal way. 2Connect cannot be the member in "proxy" for the participant.
  • A connection via a Pseudowire is subject to the full provisions of the LINX MoU, including all technical requirements - including single mac address per-port and L2 broadcast prohibitions.
  • A member connecting via Pseudowire must make the LINX management aware that they are using a Pseudowire, and provide the following details:
    • Name of Pseudowire carrier (in this case, 2Connect)
    • Contact details for carrier
      • 24x7 Email address
      • 24x7 Phone
      • 24x7 Fax
    • Installation contact details for carrier
      • Named contact
      • Email address
      • Phone
    • Far-end location of circuit (i.e. where your router will be located)
    • Attachment speed required at LINX end (10M/100M/GigE)
    • CBR (Committed Bit Rate) of circuit
    • Anticipated Round Trip Time
    • Circuit ID Number
  • A member connected via a Pseudowire may be temporarily or permanently disconnected from LINX for MoU breaches which may have originated within their Pseudowire carrier's network.
  • A member connected via a Pseudowire must assume responsibility and liability for any and all breaches of the LINX MoU by their Pseudowire carrier, subject to the provisions contained within Clause 12 (Insurance and Liability) of the LINX MoU.

If for any reason LINX have to shut down a Pseudowire connected member's LINX port(s), the member will be contacted via email to inform of this, and the reason why, regardless of whether the fault lies with the Pseudowire carrier, or the member.
